Peter Raff
 
Peter Raff started learning Japanese at Medical School at Tübingen, Germany in 1970, obtaining a scholarship from the Ministry of Education of Japan to perform postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Kyoto University. Besides completing his PhD thesis in Kyoto, he studied Japanese language and culture. After returning to Germany in 1980 he obtained the state license to practice as a physician and, in 1981, a diploma as translator of Japanese from the Seminary of Oriental Studies at the University of Bonn . In 2001, he received the 3rd prize in the Shizuoka International Translation Competition. He completed a Master of Arts course in Advanced Japanese Studies and obtained an MA from the University of Sheffield in 2005.
