Karine Marandjian
 
Karine Marandjian, born in 1956, graduated from the Oriental Department of St. Petersburg State University. Since that time she has been working at the St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies, where she is currently a senior researcher. Her main field of research is the intellectual history of Tokugawa Japan; her PhD thesis was on the Confucian treatise by Sorai Ogyu. She combines research with teaching and translation activities. Among her translations are Masahiko Shimada's Stray Dog, Shin Hasegawa's A History of War Prisoners in Japan, and Tetsuo Yamaori's Iconography of Face: Portrait and Japanese Culture.
