Gérard Siary, elder researcher of Nichifutsugakuin, spent 8 years in Japan (1981-1989) and is a Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Montpellier III in France. As a specialist of travel literature, he translated Hokusabunryaku by Hoshu Katsuragawa. He translated Akunin by Shuichi Yoshida for JLPP.
