Mariko Koike (1952~) was born in Tokyo. She made her debut with her essay collection Chiteki Akujo no Susume (Recommendations to Women of the World) that became a huge bestseller. In 1986, she published Dai 3 Suiyobi no Joji (Love Affair on the 3rd Wednesday) and since then she turned a novelist.
